Nemo cake

Today was my nephew’s 7th birthday and the request was for a cake with sea creatures, so I decided on a nemo cake.

Everything was edible… from the wooden sign, to the shells and nemo. My neice polished off a turtle upon arrival!

I used edible pearls as bubbles and first impression moulds for the seahorses/fish/shells and turtles. My 4 yr old helped paint them using gel colours mixed with some alcohol. Ialso used some silver lustre dust for the sea horses/shells and petal dust for some of the fish.

I crushed up some biscuits for the sand and used my Wilton letter press for the fondant cake board. The birthday boy was thrilled with the end result!

Hi, I came across this wonderful creation of yours and had a question. I am attempting my first cake for my daughters 2nd birthday. I need to do 3D letters and a cake topper. In your opinion would fondant mixed with gum tex suffice or should I use straight gum paste?
