Baby Shower Cupcakes

How cute are these???!

I wish I could provide you with a step by step tutorial of how I made these gorgeous cupcakes, but as they’re straight out of the Planet Cake book (which, by the way, I thoroughly recommend buying), I’d be hit with a copyright lawsuit 🙂

As a guideline though….I started making some flesh coloured fondant, and then cut out circles for the faces. Ears and nose is just a small ball of flesh fondant, the ears imprinted with a ball tool, and the eyes are small white circles with a black dot using an edible marker. The dummy was made using a circle cutter and a small ball of fondant and a bow cutter was used for the ribbon in the hair.  To make the hair, I coloured the fondant a yellow/brown, made a cone shape and then twirled it around (kind of like a soft serve icecream cone shape!)

The beanie was made by cutting a half circle of fondant, attaching a strip of fondant to the bottom and a ball of fondant to the top, and indenting the strip with a matchstick.

I finished off the look by dusting some pink petal dust onto the cheeks.

The best thing about these cupcake toppers is that you can make them days in advance so that on the day, all you have to do is ice your cupcakes and attach. I made some Italian Meringue Buttercream and gave it a few hours to set and harden (at room temperature) so that the moisture from the icing didn’t wreck the fondant toppers. If you keep your cupcakes in the fridge, make sure you let them come back to room temperature so that the cold temperature doesn’t make the fondant sweat.

Molly certainly gave these cupcakes her seal of approval!!!

    they are so great Bronnie! So clever!. Do you have a reliable butter cake or plain vanilla cake recipe? mine seem to fail everytime! ;( too hard on the outside.

    Hi Tam 🙂

    I use my standard vanilla cupcake recipe if I need to make a vanilla cake

    For cakes I always use a mud cake

    If they are too hard on the outside, bake it at a lower temperature for a longer time. With mud cakes, at the end to get rid of the crust, brush boiling water on top of the cake once cooked and cover with foil until the cake has cooled in the tin.
