How to make a striped fondant bow

I’ve always been a little scared of stripes (hence why you haven’t seen any stripes on my cakes :-)  ) but thought it was time to start weaving them into my repertoire…

I decided to start off by attempting to make striped fondant bows as I’m making a cake for a girlfriend and wanted to incorporate stripes into the design.

I was thrilled with how they turned out – How cute are these??

To begin with, have two different colours of fondant (which has been mixed with some tylo/tylose powder so that it will harden), and roll them out.

Using a ruler for guidance, cut out even strips of turquoise fondant

Stick the turquoise evenly on the white fondant using edible glue or water

Using either a pasta machine or a rolling pin, gently flatten both colours together – be careful not to stretch the stripes

Cut out two even rectangles. Dab some water or glue on one side, and fold over, joining both sides together.

Fold the sides over and then using some toilet paper or cotton wool, scrunch it up and place it in the bows to puff them out and retain the shape

Fold and stick the ends together using some water

Cut out another rectangle of striped fondant like the picture above. Dab the centre of the bow with some water, and wrap the rectangular piece of fondant around.

Leave to dry for at least 24 hours
