Ava’s Penguin Party

We were fortunate to have a wonderful day of weather for Ava’s 4th birthday – and with lots of amazing helpers, had a fantastic day!

…and now for the pics which were taken by my very talented girlfriend Bec from Little Buttons Photography

First up was a really simple, but effective idea. I made some chocolate custard in my thermomix (super easy), and then piped it into plastic shot glasses that I found at The Reject Shop. I sprinkled 100’s and 1000’s on the top, tied a ribbon around the glass and placed a wooden spoon in the top (stamped with ‘yum!’, which I bought from Sweet Style)

Water bottles with personalised labels

Penguin sugar cookies (tutorial to follow)

Vanilla cupcakes (penguin topper tutorial here). ‘A’ toppers made by ruffling the bottom circle as per this flower tutorial, sticking a white circle on top and then a cut out ‘A’.

The Party Bags

Filled with lollies, homemade playdo, a cookie cutter, yoyo and a slinky.

The Cake!! Tutorial to follow.

..this little fella had his arm broken in transit ๐Ÿ™

..I found this bunch of balloons from my local cake shop (I’m sure you’ll be seeing plenty of those in future cakes!!)

I filled up mini noodle boxes with Brown Rice Salad (recipe to follow because it is DELICIOUS!) and Pasta Salad

I used my icecream cone holder and filled it with paper conesย and popcorn and chips (huge hit with the kids!)

Another massive hit were the chicken sandwiches, which I make for every party. I always make a HUGE batch (3 roast chickens/3 loaves of bread worth) and think I’ll have heaps left over, but without fail they are gone before the end of the party.

…Time to go and have a wine and an early night ๐Ÿ™‚

  1. Octonauts Cake | - December 5, 2013

[…] I thought I’d show you some pictures from an Octonauts cake I made for a friend’s son’s 3rd birthday. I was a little hesitant with the figurines, but they turned out much better than expected (Peso was nice and easy, given I’d had plenty of penguin experience with Ava’s birthday) […]
