Gruffalo Party: How to make the fox

‘Silly old fox… doesn’t he know?
There’s no such thing as a Gruffalo!’

To start making the fox from Molly’s Gruffalo Party, roll out a ball of orange gum/sugar paste (or fondant mixed with tylo/se powder)

Roll it into a sausage shape and taper off one end for the fox’s head

Make a hole in the bottom using a toothpick

It was at this point that Lily came into the office and said ‘Oh… you’re making a carrot!!’ :-)

Roll out some white and cut out a ‘rocket’ shape to attach to the fox. Don’t worry too much about the shape as it will be underneath the fox and you wont see much of it :-)

Roll out 2 white balls for the eyes and attach to the fox

Roll out a small black ball for the nose and then stick on the party hat and colour in the eyeballs with a black edible marker.

You can see at this point I have a toothpick inside the fox and have stuck him on a styro block as it’s easier for it to maintain it’s shape while you make the cave.

Roll some black colour into a ball and shape into a semi-circle for your cave. Stick your fox on top using some edible glue/water and your toothpick. You would need to use a toothpick/dry piece of spagetti as I otherwise I think you’d run the risk of the fox falling off.

I ended up triming my fox as when I put him against the cave, I felt he was too long.

Leave the fox to dry in this position for at least 24 hours (I made the fox about 4 days before the party).

Once the fox and cave has hardened, add the front legs using the same method I used for the Cow’s legs in my farm tutorial using some black and orange gum/sugar paste. And then finally, I added some green leaves to the cave for a bit of decoration.
