Monday was Lily’s Prep teacher’s birthday and I volunteered to make the cake
Apparently she loves nail polish, so I thought I’d try making some nail polish bottles from fondant and they were surprisingly easy… yipppee!
I’ve made a video to show you how to make the nail polish bottles
To make the front of the cake
Use a sugar shaper to squeeze out some white fondant (which has been mixed with a hardening agent) or gum/sugarpaste for the ‘stick’ and some for the brush part
As per the video, you will have made the hole in the nail polish handle prior to it drying. Let the stick dry for 5 minutes and then stick into the handle and leave to completely dry (I’ve dried mine on a lid)
Stick the brush strands on and once hardened, lightly colour in the ends with either an edible marker or some edible colouring.
Roll out your coloured fondant for the nail polish ‘splash’ and stick to your cake board. Once hardened you can write your birthday message.

The cake is fabulous and the nail polish bottles are amazing. Miss Butler must have been so very delighted with her birthday cake.
