Basics Series: How to stack a cake

I get asked all the time about the easiest way to stack a cake, so I thought I’d make a quick tutorial for you :-)

I use wooden cake dowels which are around 10c at my local cake shop. You may want to put a board or cover down on your table, but my table has already been trashed by my children ;-) so I don’t bother!

Enjoy!

Thanks so much for posting these! I see where you say they are already covered in fondant when you stack? Do you cover again with additional fondant or just decorate from there? So much easier to cover in fondant as separate cakes, I have a time of it doing it once they’re stacked….just curious!

Brilliant! My son’s first birthday is in July and I want to attempt a professional looking tier cake, but I honestly have no idea what I’m doing! I’ve never even covered a cake in fondant before! But it’s so nice to watch your tutorials, you’re so friendly! And you’re Australian which is even better (I’ve watched a few American videos but it’s like another language!) I’m having so much fun cake decorating lately, I just want to do it every day. I wish there were more cake decorating classes available here in Darwin! Oh well, at least I have you to help me out. Thanks again!
